Mathematics

At Woodlands we tailor our mathematics provision subject to the learning needs of individual pupils.

Within foundation stage we relate the mathematical aspects of the children's work to the objectives set out in the Early Learning Goals. Pupils develop their skills through structured play activities.
Children learning from KS2 onwards have opportunities to study maths in a variety of ways:  number is taught in mixed age groups with the sequence and pace of learning is informed by the needs of the group to ensure all pupils gain a solid foundation of knowledge, skills and understanding.
Shape, space and measure is taught within pupil’s mixed ability class groups. The sequence of lessons follows a set rolling program to ensure coverage of all maths topic areas. The using and applying strands expect pupils to be given the opportunity to develop their skills throughout the day.

Curriculum content is focused through termly planning, these plans are working documents which are amended as required to meet the needs of the learners.
At KS4 and beyond, pupils work towards public examinations when appropriate. These may include GCSEs, Entry Level Equals/AQA Units and practical numeracy modules through APT.
