Woodlands Outreach Support and Advisory Service
About our Service
The Physical Disabilities Outreach Service is funded by Plymouth City Council and is operated by Woodlands School. We provide advice guidance and support to any school in the city on facilitating access to learning and education for pupils who have a physical disability.
There is no requirement for pupils to have an EHCP to access our service and we are part of the targeted and specialist support elements of the Ordinary Available Provision expected in every mainstream school.
What we do
The Physical Disabilities Outreach Service works in cooperation with Plymouth schools to ensure individuals who have physical disabilities succeed in access mainstream education.
The Outreach Service aims to:
- support pupils to access the curriculum in order to encourage independence and independent recording of work in school.
- provide training and advice to promote the development of fine and gross motor skills.
- support effective communication between pupils, families and schools, especially at times of transition.
- liaise with other services from health, education and social services in order to provide coordinated support to the pupil, family and school.
- Offer support on specialist equipment and can broker access to the specialist environment at Woodlands School for staff training experiences.
