Wood View Short Breaks

Wood View Short Breaks Service is registered as a Children's Home and provides children and young people residential short break opportunities. We offer high standards of care and support as well as a varied range of indoor and outdoor activities. Each young person is given the opportunity to enjoy the company of their peers and develop their social skills in a safe environment.

We understand that having friends and a social life can be very difficult within the family unit. Time is needed for siblings to have their friends around whilst the parents may have their hands full caring for a child with complex needs. A stay at Wood View Short Break Service enables the child to expand their social and personal skills and also allows the rest of the family to have time doing activities that may be difficult or even impossible in everyday situations.

We aim to give the children in our care, a happy family type environment. Offering a variety of activities, both indoors and out, among highly qualified staff with nurses as an integral part of our team.

Board of Governors information

What do our families say about our service?

“As a family, we are extremely happy with our child’s transition to respite at Wood View. We’ve been guided right from the very beginning of the process and kept informed step by step.”

“As a parent, it was very important for me to meet the staff and view Wood View as I like to get a sense of where my child will be staying, for peace of mind. This wasn’t an issue, and I had met with the team on a number of occasions before (my child) started.”

“The Wood View team has been great at keeping me informed about dates etc and any information I may need via phone and email. As was this was very new to me at the start, I had a lot of questions and team were always happy to take the time to answer.”

“The staff that care for my child are all lovely and I have no worries about him while he is in their care. After his stays I am always kept informed of the time he has spent there firstly via speaking to his carers and also through email, which I find helpful.”

“Overall we are extremely happy, and I’m sure our child is too. We look forward to him spending more quality time at Wood View for daytrips etc and seeing his confidence grow outside of the family home.”

“My child is safe there, they really are wonderful.”

“I love seeing photos of my child during her respite. It’s good to know she is enjoying herself”

“They’re brilliant. My child has been going for about a year now and has come on leaps and bounds. She is a terrible sleeper, but this has really improved since she went there. She has settled down and really got into it, she is relaxed and treats it as a home from home. When I ring to check on her on the nights she is there, she is always doing different activities. She eats in the dining room with the others which is a new experience for her as she usually eats on her own as there are just the two of us”
